The killing mechanism of UV-C energy disrupts cellular DNA. When enough energy has been delivered the organism is rendered inactive and unable to replicate.
Is there anything left on the surface after UV-C treatment?
DNA fragments potentially remain on a treated surface; however, if enough energy has been delivered, these fragments of DNA are not pathogenic.
Does the surface need to be cleaned after UV-C treatment?
Surface cleaning immediately following UV-C treatment is not necessary.
How long after UV-C treatment can I admit a patient to the room?
You can admit immediately. In fact, once the system has been turned off room occupancy can take place immediately.
Is there anything harmful left in the room after UV-C treatment?
There is nothing harmful. A clean odour is produced that will dissipate typically within 10 to 15 minutes depending on the air exchanges in the room
What is the odour produced by Surfacide?
It is a combination of extremely low levels of ozone (beyond mechanical detection limits) and microscopic organic matter being treated in the air such as dust.
On which micro-organisms is Surfacide effective?
Data indicates UV-C energy is effective against vegetative organisms, spores and viruses. Some of these organisms include: MRSA, VRE, Acinetobacter, C.Diff, CRE , CPE and many more.
How long does it take to treat a room?
The size of the room, contents of the room and energy needed to eradicate microorganisms will determine the length of time each room will take. Most rooms average 30 minutes.
What happens if someone accidentally walks into a room while Surfacide is in operation?
There is a motion detection sensor, that when properly used, will stop Surfacide operation, (fail to safe.)
What if our rooms have multiple entry ways into a room where UV-C is being utilized?
Make sure all entry ways are properly labelled and secured to prevent entry into room during Surfacide operation.
Does UV-C go through glass?
UV-C does not penetrate glass, wood or walls. It is recommended that windows be covered given the intense bright light that is generated from the Surfacide Helios system.
Is UV-C effective on cubicle curtains?
Data is not currently available regarding UV-C claims on cubicle curtains.
Will UV-C damage electronics?
No. In fact the wavelengths of UV-C light are effective in small spaces.
How do I know Surfacide was effective?
There is a sensor on the handle that measures UV-C output. This output is tied into information from an ongoing study over a three-year period at Ohio State University Medical centre that has established a correlation between total delivered energy and log reduction for specific organisms.
